In Fall 2023, I am teaching my “Sociology of Guns” seminar at Wake Forest University for the ninth consecutive academic year, dating back to the fall of 2015.
Probably the most remarked-on aspect of the class is taking the students on a field trip to the gun range at the start of the course. It is also probably the most important part of the class, also.
The Conversation, a website dedicated to helping scholars reach broader audiences, recently gave me the opportunity to explain my “Sociology of Guns” class in their UNCOMMON COURSES series.
It’s a short read if you’re interested in how and why I teach the course and what I hope to accomplish in it.
Thanks for reading beyond the headline. If you appreciate this or some of the other 1000+ posts on this blog, please consider supporting my research and writing on American gun culture by liking and sharing my work.
