On Getting Work-Sustaining Feedback

I am recently back from a trip to Colorado to participate in the Vail Symposium’s Conversations on Controversial Issues series focusing on gun violence. These panels are moderated by Clay Jenkinson, a public historian.

In advance of the symposium, on his “Listening to America” podcast, Mr. Jenkinson drew on some of my thoughts that were recorded during my “pre-interview” with the Vail Symposium (about 36 minutes in, FYI).

A podcast listener was so moved by my thoughts that he took time to write me an email about it.

In the face of the struggles I face to gain acceptance of my balanced view of guns in America, receiving an email like this will sustain me at least for another month or two.

I know not everyone is going to “get” what I’m up to, but it feels good to know that some people do. Maybe more than I know.

Thanks for reading beyond the headline. If you appreciate this or some of the other 1000+ posts on this blog, please consider supporting my research and writing on American gun culture by liking and sharing my work.

  1. I have shared yesterday’s article with several friends, and the reaction has been uniformly similar to the one below.

Keep up the good work. It’s nice to read firearms literature that is not biased.
