Quote from opening statement by Jonathan Metzl, organizer of a session on “Guns and Violence in Trump’s America” at annual meeting of the American Sociological Association in Philadelphia.

How can an inanimate object be good or bad? Does something have to be marginally sentient to choose good from bad? Oh, that’s right. Guns are only meant to kill, and killing is bad. I see a world of vegans before me, but do carrots scream when they die?
Well, whatever. As the saying goes, opinions are like a certain bodily orifice. Everyone has one, and they all smell about the same.

You can’t really say a weapon is right or wrong without taking into consideration the motives of the user.
